As believers, we need to learn the power of the spoken word. As long as there is breath in our bodies, we need to be conscience of every word that we say. When we speak, there is breath that comes out with our words. That ‘Breath’ is either life (guided by the Holy Spirit) or death (guided by evil spirits).

As we affirm our identity in Christ by renewing our minds, our speech will also be renewed with the ‘breath’ of God. That’s why there is power in every word that comes out of our mouth which we will be not only accountable in the day of judgment, but also by our words we will be ‘justified’ and by our words we will be ‘condemned’ (Matthew 12). Scripture is clear, death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit (Proverbs 18:21). It says, ‘will eat its fruit’, this is present tense!

Unseen World

We may not fully understand the invisible world to its full extent, but we know it exists. Many have different opinions about the invisible realm. However, we cannot deny that it actually exists, and we need to ask the Holy Spirit to guide and teach us.

Roman 4:17 … the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not. The scriptures teach us there is a spirit realm and we need to understand the principle.

The world was formless, empty and dark, God with His breath spoke it into existence (the spoken Word, Genesis 1). We hold the key – the power of the ‘spoken Word’.

Planting Seeds

Here is an illustration: The word of God is a seed. Visualize this: we throw a seed (the word), it plants itself wherever it lands and eventually it will grow to what it is called for. This confirms what Isaiah 55:11 says, “So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; it will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it”.

Seated In Heaven

Let us go deeper. Ephesians 1 refers to Jesus seated at His (God’s) right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named. In Ephesians 2 it states, that we are also seated in the heavenly place with Christ. There is no higher seating than this, meaning below this seat, there is everything else: demonic forces, universe and earth. Ephesians 6:12.

Now picture, by faith you are seated with Christ, having full authority in Him. We look at the situation and speak forth God’s word (promises and decrees) over that situation. That seed is sent to where you are planting it, believing in faith, calling it to be. It has no option but to manifest in due time, because God’s word is Yes and Amen! When we doubt it is because we see things with our natural eyes not with God eyes. Faith makes us sure of what we hope for and gives us proof of what we cannot see. (Hebrews 11 – CEV)

The principle of the spirit realm doesn’t change, if we speak contrary to God’s word, the enemy will take that word and manifest it to its evil doing. This gives the enemy permission to abort God’s word. That’s why we need to be conscious of what comes out of our mouth. The breath breathed with the ‘word’ will manifest into being. Paul says that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador … that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should. (Ephesians 6:19-20)

Rightful Authority

Sometimes, we tend to look up to church leaders, or follow preachers around the world thinking they are the only ones that have the authority to bless, to prophecy, not realizing that we have the same authority, by declarations, proclamations and decrees of our words. We can either bless or condemn ourselves, either bless the atmosphere we live in, or we condemn it. With the power of authority we have in Christ, we can speak over the situation, our lives, families, cities and nations, speaking directly into the spirit realm calling into being as Jesus did!

Let us be encouraged, let us change the world around us with Words of Life!

Proverb 21:23: Those who guard their mouths and their tongues keep themselves from calamity.

Isaiah 3:10: Tell the righteous it will be well with them, for they will enjoy the fruit of their deeds.

Are you conscious of your words?
