We started off a new year and it’s exciting because we know that God has great things in store for us, even more than He had in 2015. For myself personally, when I entered 2016, I felt the Lord telling me to be like Enoch and learn to walk with God daily.
I want to hear His voice, to know His thoughts, to have a deeper relationship with Him. The hymn we used to sing years ago came to mind: “And He walks with me and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own. And the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known.” Do we tarry with the Lord? Do we walk with Him and talk to Him about every detail of our lives? That is my goal for this year and onward. I want to learn how to always hear His voice about everything. He is speaking to us, are we listening?
Keep Your Ears Open!
That is something that I want to teach the children for this year and onwards. If they learn to walk with God now, nothing can deter them from His plan for their lives. No seeds of doubt can creep in because they know the Truth and they know the Source of all life. They need to learn how to hear His voice above all the others. And the older we get, those other voices get louder and louder. How can we teach them to walk with God daily? How can we walk with God and hear His voice more clearly and drown out the others?
I Am A Friend Of God!
The answer is pretty simple. In Genesis 5 second part of verse 21, it says that Enoch lived in close fellowship with God. The word fellowship means a close association of friends or equals sharing similar interests. In order to have fellowship with God, we need to be friends with Him. The word friend means a person whom one knows and with whom one has a bond of mutual affection. Do we know God well enough to have that bond of mutual affection? We know that He loves us deeply; He gave up His life for us. Does He know how deeply we love Him? If you haven’t told Him lately, start by telling Him. Talk to Him, He is a friend that sticks closer than a brother. He is always ready to listen to us. The problem is that we don’t always take the time to spend with Him.
Stay A While
In Mark 6:31, Jesus tells His disciples, “Come away with Me. Let us go alone to a quiet place and rest for a while.” Can you hear Him tell you that? Or have the other voices around you gotten louder? We hear the cries of work, finances, family, friends, etc. that are calling out for our attention. But can we hear that still small voice that is telling us to come away with Him to a quiet place and rest for a while? The best place to find rest for our souls and our mind is in His presence. The best way to have a close relationship and fellowship with the Lord is to tarry there with Him.
How can we have that close walk with Him in 2016?
1. Become a friend of God
- Once we get to Know Him through His Word and through prayer, we will develop a bond of mutual affection
2. Fellowship with Him
- When we are friends with God, we will want to spend more time with Him because we share the same interests
3. Linger in His presence
- Then we can tarry with Him and hear His voice and what He is telling us to do
There is joy when we linger in His presence. There is a peace that passes all understanding. We can hear his voice more clearly, telling us how He loves us. Jesus is calling, “Come away with Me”, what is your answer?
“And He walks with me and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own. And the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known.”
